Milwaukee native John McGivern, star of the long-running hit comedy Shear Madness, agrees with Martin that the arts and culture scene in Milwaukee is one of its best. Featured in the teen comedy The Princess Diaries, McGivern performs in theatrical productions around the country and one-man shows in his hometown.

"This is an exciting time to be in Milwaukee as a college student. Milwaukee has more theaters and performing arts events than most cities its size or larger," says McGivern. "And, the options are accessible in location and price. A strong cultural center is what makes a city great."

Like a true renaissance city, Milwaukee provides a social niche for everyone. An important part of the college experience is creating a life outside the classroom, developing friends and new interests. Wendy Selig-Prieb, president and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee Brewers, believes Milwaukee's recreation and entertainment options offer college students an ideal environment to build those connections and relax between classes.
